Luke's 1st set of stitches

Yesterday, Luke split his eyebrow open and we visited the local urgent care to get 6 studly stitches. Really the story is stupid and sad...he wasn't being crazy or even playing rough. He had just finished watching a movie on the Gorilla Bag. He turned around to find me and we started talking. The top of the bag he was still sitting on was covering part of the side table and he didn't realize. He went to throw his head into the bag and instead rammed it into the side of the table. Ben was taking a final and Caleb was asleep so we stopped the bleeding (mostly) and then Luke feel asleep holding a towel to his head.

When Ben got home and Luke woke up we drove over to see the doctor. We didn't have to wait long and Luke was super, super brave. Not a tear dropped. They draped his face so he couldn't see anything but a towel, the nurse held his head, and I held his hands, but we probably didn't need to. Really, he held totally still, squinted his little eyes and sort of shook. I teared up instead! I didn't expect him to it handle so well. O yea, the other part of his eyebrow is red because when I took off the band aid today it totally ripped out all his eyebrow hairs. Oops!

Here are some pictures Ben took today after church.

poor little guy, what a trooper. the band aid being torn off is always the worst. Whenever Holly is playing on ours and jumping off I get a little worried that something like that might happen but so far we have been lucky. When I was little I always wanted a scar on my eyebrow, I thought it would be tough and make me look like a pirate. tell him its cool!

Oh my goodness! It totally makes Luke look like a tough little guy, though. So sweet that he was so brave through it all. I don't know if I would have been able to keep it together, that kind of stuff is so hard as a mom!

Owww! There always has to be something right before you travel. Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly.

Wow, I am so impressed with that behavior. Don't you hate to be the one to hold his hands and look at his face when they're in pain. It's so tough as a mom. But, I think every boy has to have at least one set of stitches!

PS- Did I tell you my brother is coming to Cornell next year for his PhD in econ (I think econ). He's single...so keep an eye out for him...please!

Oh, and my heart is broken that you guys aren't coming to Texas, but maybe my brother's move to New York might necessitate a family trip out that way!

Ouch, that looks painful! I dread the days when Chance will be old enough to get injuries that are more than just a scrape on the knee. I'm sure I will be just like you and tear up at watching your child suffer. Poor little Luke!

Wow...what a boy! Luke looks like he handled it all well.
I am always amazed at how close kids come to really being maimed (less than an inch away from their eye, etc.) and they sail right thru and end up with a little reminder of an adventure!
With three boys we have had our fair share of stitches. All of them have been stitched at least once. (Lauren even had to have her chin stitched!) Jesse has exceeded the others in broken bones however!
Luke's collision is probably the first of many, or at least a few injuries in your family.
Go BOYS!!!
